Muncie - Muncie-Harry E. Privett, 88, died early Tuesday morning, June 22, 2010, in Ball Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.

He was born in Muncie, the son of James and Mabel Cook Privett, attended Muncie City Schools, served with the Army Air Force during WWII, and spent most of his life in this area.

Mr. Privett was employed for more than twenty-two years with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, and later with Society Corporation for several years prior to his retirement.

Harry was a member of American Legion Post #19, and a life member of the Eighth Air Force Historical Society, Inc. While with the Army Air Force, he served in the 91st Bomb Group and was decorated with a Silver Star and a Purple Heart.

Surviving are his wife of more than sixty-six years, Lucille Burling Privett; his daughter, Judy Schuck (husband, Mike) Muncie; a daughter-in-law, Janet Privett Muncie; four grandchildren, Michael Schuck (wife, Tammy), Bryan Schuck (wife, Julie), Jeff Privett (wife, Jenne), and Lisa Wolfe Burton (husband, Dennis); five great grandsons; two great granddaughters; three sisters, Wilma Privett, Lois Reed, and Janet Harrison; a brother Ralph Privett (wife, Leora); and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Harry E. Privett Jr., a granddaughter, a great grandson, three brothers, and two sisters.

Services will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday June 25, 2010 in The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, with Pastor Rusty Clements officiating. Burial will follow in Elm Ridge Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by the Delaware County Veteran’s Honor Guard.

Friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, from 4 until 7 p.m. Thursday, June 24, 2010 or one hour prior to service time on Friday.
