Muncie - SELMA-Mark B. “Papoo” Garrett, 87, died early Tuesday morning, June 22, 2010 at Parker Health and Rehabilitation Center in Parker City following an extended illness.

Mr. Garrett was born November 1, 1922 in West Union, Ohio, the son of Burch and Bess (Weaver) Garrett. He was a graduate of Decatur Central High School, Indianapolis.

Mr. Garrett was a farmer in Wayne and Union Counties. He had owned the Cork and Bottle in Richmond and the Dixon Dance Studio in Richmond; and later was employed at Schwartz Paper Company.

He was a member of the Boston Men’s Club and the Boston Methodist Church in Boston, Indiana, and was owner and editor of “This Week in the Palm Beaches”.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Phyllis Garrett; four daughters, Melanie Ferguson (husband-Ray), Muncie, Melissa Reece, Richmond, Missy Garrett, Atlanta, GA, and Molly Ervin (husband-Mark), Selma; seven grandchildren, Lori Ferguson, Mark Ferguson, Pete Ferguson, Monique O’Grady, Nici Reece, Priscilla Ervin, and Zach Ervin; ten great grandchildren, Zack, Jordan, Kaleb, Lilly, Kailey, MacKenzie, Madison, Macie, Garrett, and Bailey; one sister, Kathryn Markley, Richmond; several nieces and nephews; and his special cat, Oliver.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters.

A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, June 27, 2010 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel with Chaplain Ron Forsythe officiating.

Friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m., Sunday June 27, 2010.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Parker Health and Rehab, Physical Therapy Department, 359 Randolph St., Parker City, IN 47368

The family would like to express their special thanks to 5th Floor East of Ball Memorial Hospital and the staff at Parker Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Lyn Hensley, 5 E Secretary - Miss Molly and Family, I was so sorry to hear about your dad. Stephanie called and told us about it and everyone was very sad to hear the news. He was a character! He was probably our favorite patient! I got a kick out of hearing his booming voice and him calling everyone Honey. We'll all miss him but he's at peace now.

Bob (the on-time emcee) and Jeannie Stoner - When we first moved to Richmond many years ago with no relatives close by, your family became an extended family for us. For that we were blessed. Papoo will be missed by so many including us as he truly loved life and his sense of humor was a testament to that.
