Muncie - Muncie-Amy Catherine (Robbins) Rust passed away Friday, June 25, 2010 with her children at her side, at the Golden Living Center in Muncie after a brief illness.

Catherine was born December 26, 1911, in Washington County, Indiana to the late Sidney N. and Hattie (Smith) Robbins. Catherine’s early years were spent in the Canton, Indiana area where she attended a one room school, but later moved to Redkey, Indiana where in 1931 she graduated from high school as class Salutatorian.

After a lengthy courtship during the Great Depression, Catherine married the love of her life, George Chester “Chet” Rust on July 4, 1936.

Catherine spent many years in photography, painting black and white pictures with colored oils. Later, she was for many years, a cosmetologist at The Collegienne Shoppes in The Village. Catherine was a longtime member of High Street United Methodist Church.

There was something very special about Catherine’s personality and generous outlook on life. She was someone that as soon as you met her, she was your friend. She had the uncanny ability to, when life dealt her lemons, she would turn it into lemonade. She was truly special!

Catherine is survived by her sons: John Rust (wife-Judy), Muncie, Sidney Rust (wife-Nancy), Indianapolis; daughter, Mary Razor (husband-Brad), Muncie; five grandchildren: Kim Pfeifer (husband-Steve), Fishers, Jeni Leaird (husband-Dan), West Lafayette, Julie Frigo, Fishers, Jodi Wolfe (husband-Jeff), Colorado Springs, and Amy Yakos (husband-Tony), Muncie; nine great-grandchildren and special friends, Betty Jordan and Roberta Watson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Chet, two brothers, Roland and Delphis Robbins, three sisters, infant Gladys Robbins, Geneva Haley, and Lucille Gegenheimer and special friends, Marjorie Conquest, Rowena Ross and Jerri Earehart.

Services will be held 11:00am Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at the Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel with Rev. Charlotte B. Overmyer officiating. Cremation will follow the service.

Friends and family may call from 10:00am until the time of service on Tuesday.

Memorials may be directed to Alzheimer Association, Central Indiana Chapter, 50 E. 91st St. Suite 100 Indianapolis, IN 46240 or High Street United Methodist Church, 219 S. High St., Muncie, IN 47305-1691 or to the donor’s choice.

Catherine’s family would like give special thanks to the staff of Golden Living Center, Waters of Yorktown and Asera Care Hospice for the excellent care they gave Catherine.

Susan and JD Daniel - /Although the world is a better place because Catherine Rust was in it, I know that the Angels are singing and rejoicing because she has a new home. Catherine blessed all of our lives with her wonderful presence and her unconditional love. However, you and Brad were blessed with the oppportunity to return that caring, unconditional love to her full measure and you did it with honors. I consider it an honor to call you "best friends."
