Paul John Franklin Sylvester - 83

Muncie - Muncie – Paul John Franklin Sylvester, 83, died Friday, July 9, 2010, at his residence following an extended illness.

He was born December 14, 1926, the son of Paul C. and Nelli V. (Vangsness) Sylvester.

Paul graduated from Burris High School, class of 1944. He attended Wittenburg University, graduated from Ball State University in 1951 and received his Masters Degree in 1960.

He was a long time coach and teacher. He taught nineteen years at Hartford High School in Croton, Ohio; was a teacher and coach at Daleville High School from 1964 until 1983 and was owner of Sylvester Nursing Home for 35 years. Mr. Sylvester was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Mantha Jayne Sylvester, Muncie; one son, Schuyler G. Sylvester, (wife-Francheska E.Henderson); three daughters, Shelley K. Sylvester, Kelley P. Kelly, (husband-Danny J.) and Ginger J. Peterson, (husband-Pete S); two sisters, Virginia S. Anderson and Una Sylvester; seven grandchildren, Randy W. Conatser, Ron L. Conatser, Nicole D. Wright, Skyla E. Sylvester, Dean F. Sylvester, Lee M. Peterson and Christopher P. Kelly and one great grandchild, Brooklynn E. Bumgartner.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Dean F. Sylvester and Bobby Joe Sylvester.

Services will be held 12:00 Noon, Monday July 12, 2010, at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, with Rev. Dr. Dennis Hammons officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, north of Muncie. Military rites will be given by the Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.

Family and friends may call Sunday, July 11, 2010, at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. or one hour prior to service time on Monday.
