Muncie - Muncie – Wayne E. Cheek, 85, passed away Wednesday morning, July 14, 2010, at Willowbend Living Center following an extended illness.

He was born December 6, 1924 in Cloverland, IN the son of Claude Elmer and Esther (Egner) Cheek, graduated from Portland High School and moved to Muncie in 1975.

Mr. Cheek was employed with Marsh Supermarkets for forty-two years and was a store manager form 1953 until his retirement in 1990.

He was a member of Gethsemane United Methodist Church, Pairs and Spares Sunday School Class, Methodist Men’s Club, and he sang in the choir. He was also a private pilot and a member of AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics).

Surviving are his wife, Julia Cheek; five sons, Robert Cheek (wife, Lynne), Muncie, Richard Cheek (wife, Marita), Garner, NC, Jerry Cheek (wife, Valerie), Auburn, Stanley Cheek (wife, Lucretia), Muncie, and Joseph Cheek, Muncie; three step-children, Jewell Feeley (husband, Kevin), Noblesville, Fran Ayers, Muncie, and Neil McClelland (wife, Emily), Fishers; twenty-one grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; his sister, Jean Hagel (husband, Robert), Tempe, AZ; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Claude Elmer Cheek; his mother, Esther Weber; his first wife, Mary Jane Cheek in 1983; and a son, Carl Cheek.

Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 17, 2010 in The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel with Rev. Herb Claar officiating. Entombment will follow in Covington Memorial Gardens in Ft. Wayne at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday or one hour prior to services on Saturday.

Memorials may be directed to Gethsemane United Methodist Church, 1201 W. McGalliard Rd., Muncie, IN 47303.
